Hello Gazetteers!
Soooo it’s been a little while. I kinda disappeared on you there! Let’s just say I was taking some personal time.
Can you find it in your heart to forgive me and welcome me back into your inbox?
Personal Time
Before getting back to business-as-usual I’d like to take the time to get a little personal.
It’s almost hard to believe I started the GWG just over a year ago. At the time I was in a weird place - shifting the focus of my career, and quickly realizing how much I had to learn.
The Greenwash Gazette was simply a small weekly newsletter but it became a source of pride for me. It created a framework that pushed me to learn, distill complicated issues, and since I was sharing it - I had to finish!
So why did I disappear on you?
The self doubt crept in. I needed to focus on something ‘real’. And so I missed one week, then two, and I had no idea what direction to take this in. I assure you, every week I haven’t sent this - I’ve known something was missing.
And now we are back!!
I come back to you now in a somewhat similar place to when I wrote GWG Vol. 1. I am again looking to find my voice. To learn more about climate. And to have fun sharing that with you.
The mission and principles of the GWG remain unchanged from Vol.1 :
amplify companies, individuals, events, and policies striving to make a positive impact
create accountability for those whose actions do not align with their words
share interesting work from others
good vibes only
There will be a re-orientation of sorts though.
From here, I plan to focus on novel climate solutions (both techy and not), sort through the nuisances, (try to) call trends, and ultimately work to figure out a path out of this nonsense.
Be On Deck
Let’s be real - sometimes thinking so much about the climate can be mentally taxing. There’s a lot of bad news out there.
Over the last 8 weeks I was a part of the On Deck Build For Climate program. If you need a refresh on your optimism that we can still achieve our climate goals look no further than a program like this.
On Deck brought together over 120 people from across the globe, from every professional background, and all levels of experience united by one thing - working on climate. The amount of energy, talent, and passion that people are bringing to this is good reason to rejoice.
From decarbonizing steel, aviation, and maritime shipping, to making it easy for people to eat climate friendly meals, to installing solar on farms, to creating communities - both in the real world and metaverse - the race is on. I look forward to continuing to track and share these companies success.
What’s clear is the message is getting through. I’ve now seen it with my own eyes - the best and brightest are focused on climate change and building companies addressing every challenge imaginable.
Company of the Week
This week I’d like to take you to my adopted homeland and share an Australian company working on a simple, yet elegant solution to food waste.
Their video will explain better than I ever could (and is super fun!) Hope you enjoy.
That’s All Folks!
I appreciate you sticking with me and hope to hear from you!
